After many years of negotiations and planning, the Seattle City Council has finally reached an agreement on the new zoning regulations for the South Lake Union neighborhood.
These new zoning rules will increase the height restrictions for new buildings in the area. 240 feet in most the neighborhood and in a smaller area lining Denny Way, up to 400 feet.
Like with most zoning changes regarding height restrictions, questions around maintaining affordable housing in the area are raised. The Seattle City Council legislation will help to fund new affordable housing by imposing an additional per-square-foot fee that will be paid by area Developers (both residential and commercial projects).
