Last week Greystar presented at its second design review for their upcoming residential tower, The Waverly. Located at 210 8th Avenue North in South Lake Union, the 28-story tower will feature market-rate 374 apartments.

Greystar will purchase the property which is currently owned by the Seattle Unity Church. The church will occupy 7,220 square feet on the south end of the property closest to Denny Park where Olson Kundig is designing a new three-story building.

Seattle Unity Church has been located at 200 8th Avenue North since 1960. The church is not required to go through design review, however, plans indicate a 55-foot tall building composed of a combination of brick, glass, metal, wood and stucco.

The Waverly and Seattle Unity Church projects will have their entrances on 8th Avenue North. Both will be built above a shared underground garage with 286 stalls that will be accessible via the alley to the east. They will be 45 feet apart with a landscaped courtyard separating the two buildings.

The Waverly “will provide a wide range of unit sizes and configurations, offering accommodation for both core urban dwellers and those looking for a Pied-á-terre.”

Amenities at The Waverly include a large deck and interior space atop the podium on level five; and the roof will have 4,700 square feet of decks in addition to 3,200 square feet of interior space, “providing expansive views of Puget Sound, the Space Needle, downtown, Lake Union and the surrounding mountain ranges.” There will also be a bike room with 132 stalls.

Both projects are expected to break ground next year. Seattle Unity’s current building will be vacated as they move to a temporary site while under construction.

Turner Construction is the general contractor for The Waverly and Sellen Construction is the general contractor for the Seattle Unity Church project. Olson Kundig is in charge of the landscape architecture for both buildings.
