Historic Pioneer Square Building to be Arts Hub'

A group of Seattlites have gotten together to preserve a piece of history, rather than have it subject to new construction.

The group is now in contract with Aegis Building (current home of Caf Bengodi) to buy the historic Scheuerman Building, that was built during the Seattle Gold Rush in 1890. The purchase price: $4.7 million.

The arts hub partnership is called Good Arts LLC, named after a cafeteria called Good Eats that occupied the building a century ago.

Partners of the Good Art LLC includereal estate developer Greg Smith of Urban Visions; Jane Richlovsky of 57 Biscayne; Steve Coulter, technical director for ACT Theatre; and Ali Ghambari, who operates Cherry Street Coffee House.

Their vision for the building is an “Arts Hub” where artists can live, work, sell and play without the fear of new construction to push them out. With all the growth in the Seattle area real estate market, a number of artist-centric galleries and work spaces have been shut down for new construction. TheGood Arts group hopes that this deal will secure a place for the arts in Pioneer Square.

Scheuerman Building is located at110 Cherry Street, on the corner of 1st andCherry Street, in Pioneer Square.
