The historic landmark approved Eitel Building has been an eyesore for many downtown Seattle residents and tourists for years. However that’s all going to change soon. Plans are in the works for a boutique hotel!
The Eitel Building is located on the corner of 2nd and Pike, neighboring the 1521 Second Condominium and the Hard Rock Cafe. The historic 111-year-old 7-story building has sat mostly vacant since the 1970’s, with the exception of a couple ground-level sketchy restaurants. In the early 2000s, the city once threatened to condemn the eye-sore property, and most recently the owners of the Osaka Teriyaki (referred by many Seattleites as Scariyaki) that operated on the bottom floor was arrested for allegedly trafficking in stolen property.
Finally after sitting on the market for years, the Eitel building has been sold to Lake Union Partners, which plans to turn the landmark building into a boutique hotel with a ground-level restaurant and bar. Located just one block from the main entry of the famous Pike Place Market and the Downtown neighborhood. Its a great location!
Columbia Hospitality, will operate the independent hotel.Weinstein A+UArchitects and Urban Designers and Root Culture Lab are designing the renovation. CPLinc(Coughlin Porter Lundeen) is the structural and civil engineer.
Construction is tentatively scheduled to start next spring or summer and be done in early 2018.
The Eitel Building, located at 1501 Second Avenue, was built in 1904 as a medical professional office building with a drug store and other retail businesses on the first floor.
