This month is the 54th birthday celebration of the Seattle Space Needle! From the moment that Space Needle construction crews first broke ground in April 1961, to the grand opening at the World’s Fair on April 21, 1962 professional photographer George Gulacsik was there snapping away, creating a comprehensive photo album diary detailing the day-to-day construction of our beloved Space Needle.
Following Gulacsiks death in 2010, his photographs were donated to the Seattle Public Library, who helped in the digitizing process and are now making them available to the public. Take a walk through history and scan through over 2,400 recently-digitized photos chronicling the Space Needle construction process.
