Last summer Trinity Parish sold the development rights to the land adjacent to their 1892 church in First Hill. The rights were sold to Australia-based Caydon Property Group and it was announced that a high-rise condominium tower would be built on their property at Eighth Avenue and Cherry Street. Now, Caydon has submitted a first look to the design review board along with some additional project details.
Trinity Parish’s historic 1892 gothic-revival church will remain, however, all other buildings on the property will be demolished. This includes the current parish hall and site of the Cherry Street Food Bank. The parish hall will receive a new home in the lower levels of the condo tower in addition to an art gallery and coffee shop. On the other hand, the food bank declined a space in the new building. While doing so, Trinity promised to give a year of notice to them before construction begins.
Plans call for a 28-story tower that will contain 204 condominium units and street level retail. The tower will have both indoor and outdoor rooftop amenities. Caydon also plans for six levels of below grade parking. The tower will be separated from the church “by a tranquil urban garden and thoughtfully linked together by a three-story glass connection” which will be shared with the church.
Trinity will retain ownership of the property. As of now, a timeline has not been given for the development.
