capitol hill development seattle real estate news

The City of Seattle and Sound Transit want to add more housing around the new Capitol Hill light rail station area, on Broadway between East John Street and Seattle Central Community College. The proposal calls for four to five apartment buildings, totaling around 440 housing units, with construction to begin ideally by 2016 when the new train station will be up and running.

Developers of the A a C sites must participate in the city’s multifamily tax exemption program, which requires 20 percent of units to be reserved for people making between 65 and 85 percent of area median income. Site B, on 10th Avenue East between East Denny and John, must be reserved for low-income housing, and those who are making less than 60 percent of area median income. Site D, on the west side of Broadway, may be purchased and developed by SCCC. The height limit Is between 75 and 85 feet.

The Seattle City Council is expected to vote on this today. If the council approves the agreement, it goes to the Sound Transit Board of Directors.
